SANTA ROSA -- Smart & Final Inc. purchased nearly four acres of general commercial-zoned land at 2905 Santa Rosa Avenue for its second North Bay store, tentatively slated to open in 2006.

City of Commerce-based Smart & Final aims to build a 17,000sf store on the 1.6 acres fronting Santa Rosa Avenue and is taking bids for the parcel along U.S. 101.

Smart & Final isn't the first warehouse retailer to eye the site, with Lowe's and Kohl's having been interested in it and the six-acre former Yeager & Kirk land to the north, according to Larry Wasem. He and his wife, Carolyn, together with Marvin and Lori DeAngelis, sold the property.

Steve Cutter of Terranomics represented Smart & Final, and Tom Laugero of Keegan & Coppin represented the sellers.
