New name, funds for center
Harsch Investment Properties launched a $60 million redevelopment of its South Shore Center shopping plaza in Alameda and renamed the center Alameda Towne Centre.
Aside from adding some superfluous letter "e's to the mall's name, the transformation includes a near-doubling of the space for Safeway, which will open a 65,000-square-foot "Safeway Lifestyle" in December. Harsch managers hope to bring in new tenants as the company renovates the 712,000-square-foot mall, and cast Trader Joe's -- already in the mall -- as the leading example of what they are shooting for.
Brokers Sharon Carmichael and Michael Seigel of Terranomics have been named exclusive brokers on the project.
