Alameda, California - South Shore Center publicly announced its new name, Alameda Towne Centre, on Saturday October 22, 2005 as part of the annual “Earning for Learning Monster Bash!” a Halloween festival sponsored by Harsch Investment Properties. With the entire community being invited to the event, hundreds were in attendance during the unveiling festivities.
Changing the name of South Shore Center to Alameda Towne Centre is just one part of a $60 million redevelopment taking place at this project. In his answer to the question "Why change the name?” Jordan Schnitzer, President of Harsch Investment Properties, stated, “Words and names communicate an image. In light of the major repositioning of the Center, we thought it was time to create a new name and image that reflects today's Alameda.” Schnitzer adds, “The new name combines the history and tradition of the past with the excitement of the future! It communicates the location of the Center not only as a meeting and gathering place for the community, but also as the Island’s premiere shopping destination.”
Harsch Investment Properties, which has owned the property since 1979, timed the launch of the new name to coincide with the first phase of the redevelopment, which includes a new 65,000 square foot Safeway building to replace the existing 36,000 square-foot grocery store. Completion of the new Safeway Lifestyle store is scheduled for early this December [2005].
South Shore Center is in the beginning stages of a major transformation; from the new architectural design, colors, materials, and most importantly, new tenants, the changes will continue to be dramatic. Terranomics Retail Services’ Sharon Carmichael & Michael Seigel have been retained as the exclusive agents responsible for leasing and remerchandising this exciting 712,000 square foot project. “We are in negotiations with a number of quality national and local tenants that will provide many of the needs that the community has gone ‘off island’ for in the past,” commented Michael Corbitt, Retail Portfolio Manager for Harsch Properties. “From apparel, home furnishings, specialty retailers, and many exciting new restaurants, we are creating a relaxing, entertaining atmosphere that reflects the community which we are so fortunate to be a part of,” concluded Corbitt.
“Terranomics was thrilled to be chosen by Harsch Investments to re-tenant and re-create a dynamic Lifestyle project at this beautiful beachfront property location with all the upscale demographics Alameda has to offer,” commented Sharon Carmichael, Vice President of Terranomics Retail Services. “The opportunity for retailers to achieve tremendous success at this project is clear after the examples set by Trader Joes and each new opening as the transformation begins at Alameda Towne Centre,” concluded Carmichael.
